recycling at work

Championing recycling at work is good for business:

Recycling ticks all the boxes:

  • Corporate Social Responsibility - it demonstrates to staff and customers that you are taking a responsible approach to managing waste
  • Legal - it helps your business comply with the new legal requirement to pre-treat waste prior to disposal
  • Financial - it can reduce waste management costs
  • Environmental - it can help towards achieving ISO14001 accreditation

Getting started:

  • Plan your scheme - work out how you're going to make recycling happen. Involve staff, cleaners, facilities management and contractors.
  • Contact your local Think Cans recycling centre for help: they will be able to supply posters and leaflets, or you can download materials here.
  • Work out where to put collection points. Our recycling resources section lists suppliers of collection boxes, bags and can crushers
  • Recruit your recycling champions: Every successful workplace recycling programme needs a champion - or champions.  These are the people who are committed to recycling and who will make sure it happens by encouraging colleagues to get involved.
  • Communicate regularly with staff to remind them to recycle - use notice boards, newsletters, intranet, email.

You recycle at home - why not THINK about recycling CANS at work too?

Make sure Every Can Counts

Every Can Counts is a new programme designed to encourage drinks can recycling outside the home.  Every Can Counts is helping businesses to set up and promote recycling programmes by offering help with finding a recycling service provider and providing communications resources ranging from collection containers to promotional materials.

For more information visit www.everycancounts.co.uk

Every Can Counts funded by the drinks can manufacturing and recycling industries and the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

HELPFUL TIPS:

  • Tell the cleaner! Make sure the cleaner is aware that the aluminium recycling bins should not be emptied into the general rubbish but saved for recycling.
  • Shout about your achievements! Ask your local can recycling centre how many kilos you have recycled so far. And circulate the good news via intranet, company newsletter or on notice boards. This will keep staff motivated and encourage them to recycle more.
  • Want publicity? We can help! Why not drop us an email and tell us all about your recycling success, we can help to publicise your efforts and put out a positive message about your company’s environmental commitment.
