Novelis is actively involved in a number of projects to inform and educate children and the general public about aluminium and recycling.
We are delighted that our partners, Catalyst and Thinktank, are both among the first recipients of the government’s ‘Learning outside the classroom’ quality standard.

Catalyst is an interactive science centre and museum and offers an award-winning range of hands-on workshops and dynamic learning-based shows, plus galleries, trials and exhibits showing the importance of science in our everyday lives - past, present and future.
Novelis has been supporting the education programme at Catalyst for the past six years.

‘What a Waste’ – Suitable for KS2 and KS3
A 45 minute film presentation on the science of waste and recycling; including a virtual tour of the Novelis used aluminium can recycling plant – a chance to meet the staff and find out what they do!

Thinktank offers ten interactive galleries, supported by an extensive education programme which includes workshops, planetarium shows and IMAX films. In addition to resources at the museum, Thinktank also offers an outreach service covering the Midlands area.
Aluminium and Recycling at Thinktank
Recycle! Is an interactive exhibition exploring domestic recycling and featuring a recreation of the aluminium can recycling process, based on the processes used at Novelis’ recycling plant in Warrington.
You can also test the science that sorts your rubbish and explore exactly what happens to cans, plastic bottles and garden waste as it is recycled.

Other areas of the UK
Most local authorities run waste awareness and education projects, and often have facilities available for educational visits at landfill sites and materials recycling facilities. Many also have dedicated waste education teams and run school recycling programmes.
